Hi
Just recently I have tried to install three different flavours of linux,
mandrake, debian, gentoo.
My pc is almost brand new with an asus P4S8X motherboard, but it has some
problems.
All three flavours correctly identify the onboard devices (lets focus on
the onboard sis900 NIC for now). Mandrake seems to be stupid enough to
think that modprobing for the sis900 module is ample, and when pinging
somthing a watchdog adds somthing along the lines of "device or resource
busy/timeout" in whatever file dmesg prints.
Debian spurts
out the error message thats equivilent to running "modprobe sis900" on a
pc with the module compiled, but the hardware being non-existant.
Gentoo when running the net-config tool, says the device or resource is
busy.
I have tried plugging in a NE2K-PCI card, which has been proven to work
perfecltly in another pc, and the same problems occur. Actually.. The
problem happens with every device.
Now.. just for clarity. The cable has been proven to work with multiple
network cards, on multiple local networks, and is only a meter long.
All my hardware works fine in windows.
Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks
