[wellylug] moving to a 2.5 kernel from 2.4

I've been thinking I might try a 2.5 series kernel for my desktop - it
seems as though there are substantial performance improvements, and now
that I have a backup regime in place, I won't be devasated if I hose my
HD.

It sounds as though it's not as simple as compiling a new kernel and
adding a lilo stanza; I understand various things have changed or moved
(like the structure of /proc etc). I've tried Googling for a description
of what a 2.4 -> 2.5 migration would entail but I can't find anything
specifically on that topic.

Have any of you tried this? Any advice?
