[wellylug] Kernel Compile

Is there somone who can maybe run a session at a future meeting about the process, tips and tricks for recompiling the kernel?

Remembering that not everyone needs to or would necessarily want to. But there are cases when people may want to because the standard kernel supplied or upgraded with the distro doesn't have what they want.

I especially would like to learn/know how to compile a kernel for a different machine than the one it is being compiled on. I have a server with an adaptec SCSI controller that has a glitch with the 2.4.18 kernel.

It would also need to be generic enough (using generic tools) so that the various non-believers (depending on your own point of view :-Þ) can use it with their own distribution. Although tips and tricks for particular distros would be handy as well, but shouldn't be the focus.

Any volunteers ... ?
