Encouragement is a great thing. If a non-Linux user comes to a Wellylug meeting
then I'm sure there are plenty of great people who will take the time to discuss
things with them. I'm in favour of this.
However I dislike the idea of pro-active encouragement. If Wellylug had some
paid membership[1], I would refuse to contribute anything if a single cent was
going to be spent on advocacy; something that doesn't benefit existing Linux
users directly.
Don't interpret this stance as a form of xenophobia towards new users. I'm quite
happy to support an OpenSource or Linux advocacy group, but I agree with Sam C
that this is not a role for a Users Group to fill.
