But as the one who appears to have started this whole thing off and
having comments made about him - I feel an explanation needs to be made.
Brent you said the following:
Most of the concerns I've seen expressed about Linux evangelism relate
to LUG members not so much encouraging the use of Linux, but about
denigrating other options and discouraging their use.
And this is not picking at Jamie. but...
He was denigrating the option that we use, and discouraging its use, in
the first initial e-mail that he posted which actually if I recall
started this whole thing off.
"Well due to one thing and another I no longer have Linux installed on
my desktop PC at home and don't intend to reinstall for quite some time
(if ever!)"
He was saying that it was not User Friendly. Thats what the LUG is there
for to help make it friendly, and by making that Statement, he
denigrated all of you for your efforts in trying to make Linux more User
Friendly.
And if he thought that this
"So ends my rant for today, these are my hear felt feelings and are not
meant to offend anyone but perhaps they might provoke some thoughts from
some of you regarding the future of Linux on the desktop."
He posted it to a Linux Users forum, and what did he expect to get back
- hugs and kisses??
I am not saying what I did was right, but he did basically degrade all
the efforts of the LUG by making those statements. and for anyone going
to the archives, especially when the Installfest is coming, and they see
that Jamie has been a long time user of the lug and is now saying that
he no longer will use it.. is some what concerning - especially to the
Installfest efforts.
I may have flamed him, but with that initial e-mail I was so pissed off
(excuse the language) - I chose to ignore the e-mail, but then when I
asked the question on the Software patents, which in my opinion will
have an effect on every linux user, he came back and told me to stop
making it political -- When he told me, and the rest of the group by
that initial post, the he no longer has linux installed, and it most
likely never will be again - I felt why is this guy, who clearly has no
interest anymore in Linux, telling me what to do on a users group.
I stopped using Windows a long time ago, and if there is something that
needs to be done, I will find a way to do it in Linux, rather than goto
windows.. Now I know there are things that have to be Windows based, I
have 2 such apps at work, but everything else I do is in Linux.. and
although I may ask some stupid questions on the lug at times, thats what
it's there for.. to share knowledge and make it more "User Friendly".
Anyway hope that explains some of the hostility's I had in some recent
postings to the lug.
