For any of you contemplating buying one of these products to use with
GNU/Linux, this exchange might be useful:

In brief, don't buy one seems to be the message -- it appears there are
hardware problems with it.  Unfortunately this is the chipset that Dick
Smiths uses in their external USB 2 cases.  This is a pity as DSE takes
the time to certify their devices as Linux compatible, which is a very
good thing and I support that by buying from them.

I am CCing Chris Day of DSE -- he may have a different perspective.
