for those few apps that are dear to me and i need the latest version
i'll use backports or build them myself (hapens very rarely)
for the rest i just want to get work done, and i do not want to waste my
time with instabilities in the rest of the system just to have a newer
gimp or the like. every minute spent on some stability problem is lost
time for me that i just don't want to afford.

it won't be 2.2 for sure.
last sarge install i did put 2.4 on on the machine. it offered ext3 and
i think even lvm in the install menu, which can't even be done in 2.2.
i read a comment that said something to the extend of unifying all
architectures to use 2.4.27. it may also be offering 2.6, but i would
not trust that on a server yet.
