Thanks for the offer.  I did have a look at the 'live' ubuntu, but became 
frustrated at using a 'live' rather than actual system.   Went to Mandrake 
because had used it before, and happier with the installer.  It would be 
silly to change, as am becoming used to urpmi, and the KDE desktop.
