Quoting pmilne at paradise.net.nz:
Thanks for that-but my knowledge might not be as good as you give me credit for!
I entered the line
ifconfig 207.xxx.xx.xx netmask 255.255.255.252 eth0 up
and then checked what ifconfig indicated and it had taken the new details- but I was still not able
to fire up the browser- no luck. When I rebooted I was back to the old netmask of 255.255.255.0.
I connect by ethernet cable.
If you asume my knowledge is next to zero when it comes to doing this- from the moment I plug
in the ethernet cable and fire up the box- what commands do I need to enter to get internet
access.
Happy to print out any logs or output if that would help.
cheers
