I'll have copies of at least Ubuntu 5.10 for i386, SUSE 10 .0 for i386 & AMD64
& Fedora Core 4 for AMD64 at the Hutt LUG meeting on Thursday, where we can
help with the install if you want. (note that SUSE & Fedora are on DVD, so
you'll need a DVD reader to install them) 

I don't know if Lower Hutt or Wgtn is more convenient for you.
