The noise of people complaining about the 'advertising' is going to push
me off WellyLug long before the advertising itself.
Its not like we get a few posts a day. Given it was at least in some way
Linux-related (nice of him to give the LUG first dibs on _free_ hardware
suitable for Linux use!) and that the volume of these posts on the whole
is LOW - the fact that so many people seem to be up in arms over it to me
has blown this entire thing out of proportion.
Sure, it may have been appropriate for Michael to run it by the list admin
first... _maybe_. More, I think, that the 'odd post' (and I do mean odd,
not the norm) should be overlooked as it cant be said that this was for
the benefit of anyone but the LUG.
Getting too anal and nitpicky about this sort of thing is just going to
alienate members. The rules are all well and good but there is such a
thing as 'too many rules'.
I liked WellyLUG when members focused on, well, being a LUG, and not
squealing because a list member posted something that could be construed
as an advertisement in the minds of some!
Mark.
