you are right.
First of all: What's advertising? I need a clear definition.

I know a song of Robby Williams called "Advertising Space". Anything is advertising.
If you post a good answer it's advertising for you and if not than not.

Do we talk about commercial advertising or what? What is commercial advertising?
If there is no clear definition of "Advertising" than there is always arbitrariness.

As I started as a FidoNet node and with Mailboxes in the eighties we had a lot of problems 
with some mods. The major problem was that their real intention to be a mod
was self advertising.

In some cases the mods of FidoNet discussion groups had small
IT companies and they tried to make indirect advertising for themself or their companies.

Most of the large multiline mailboxes where owned by small companies! They did not do any 
official advertising. The advertising was: 
We have a multiline mailbox based upon Netware and other not! We have the knowledge! 
Are there others able to offer that service?

I've got a few very good jobs with this strategy because there where only a few fellows able to 
configure and build large networks for Companies with FidoNet technology. Is this bad?

Our whole life is advertising!

I can understand that this list is not a marketplace for buying and selling. 
In my opinion ebay is a good marketplace!

Without a clear definition nobody will be able to behave correct or doing a good job!

Writing in a list is always self advertising!

Your country searches 40,000.00 IT experts. Last week I found a large advertisement in one of our
largest IT newspapers ("Computerweek") with that information!

A list like Wellylug is for those with a higher IQ  a point where to get some impressions about NZ. 
It's a business card of your country! This list is advertising for your country!

Too much and not correct defined rules are a bad idea! 
This is the German way and a way without success!

As I stayed last December in NZ I heard in the radio that one New Zealander is worth twice of the other nations.
Don't talk about this. Be worth twice of the other nations! Behave like that! I would appreciate it!
