[wellylug] DNS beginner

Having got a Ubuntu web server and a static IP set up (thanks Daniel), 
I've been trying to re-direct the domain name to it, and close the 
current hosting service. New terms showed up (*UDAI (Unique Domain 
Authentication Identifier) *for example). Tried writing to the current 
hosting provider over a week ago to get the transfer done. So far no 
response. Had a go at looking up the subject today, only to find it is a 
jungle out there. Has anyone got the key to carrying out this presumably 
straightforward task?
