I agree with the preference of pick-up after seeing it running.
I bought 3 PCs and one Thinkpad over the years off of TradeMe,
and was very happy with those :) ... all local, all tested on
sellers permises.

One Thinkpad I went to look at didn't start, that sale fell though ;)
