You can check that the ISO file you downloaded is fine by testing the MD5
checksum; there will be instructions for that. Checking that you burned it
to CD without error isn't so straightforward, except if I remember
correctly, the Ubuntu CDs had a "self check" facility available on the
bootup menu, I'd expect Xubuntu to be the same. Does anyone know for sure?

Also, the error message you get might not indicate a faulty CD, it may
actually be telling you that there is something unusual about your PC
itself. Posting the exact error message (the same each time?) will help to
identify if an alternative installation method will work for you.
