I believe there is iPod support build into Ubuntu - can any iPod users
confirm?
Obviously you can't run iTunes, since Apple only release iTunes for
Windows and MacOS.

Yes, Ubuntu can burn both DVDs and CDs. It comes with a default CD
burning program build into the GNOME desktop, but you can install a more
advanced one called K3B with plenty of easy to use features via APT.
Ubuntu can play multizone DVDs, however most of the computer DVD drives
I've ever seen have their zone set in the drive firmware, and only
permit a maximum of 4-5 zone changes. If your drive is like this, Ubuntu
will not be able to work around it.
To play commercal DVDs, you will need to install the libdvdcss program,
which isn't distributed with Ubuntu for legal reasons (DMCA + Software
Patent fears). However it is trivial to install if desired. :-)
