You only need a Telepermit if you plan to connect to the Telecom Network and
are worried what they would do if they found out if you were running
non-telepermitted equipment. If you were connecting to a Unbundled
connection from Telstra or another ISP then you don't need to worry about a
Telepermit.

My problem with the whole Telepermit is that it's just a Telecom lock-in
process. I purchased a 14 AVM ISDN BRI Cards ex the UK for $10 shipped to
NZ to use with Asterisk, they are the exact same cards that are sold in NZ
with Telepermit. But I needed to go through the whole Telepermit process
again.
