Which recruitment agencies have you been through?

I know the 'big' agencies are extremely hopeless. Hays IT was the worst
I have ever dealt with. Beyond & Hudson and 920 weren't too bad.

The smaller agencies like Alpha Recruitment tend to be a bit better,
but as you say, it does come down to individual recruiters (who tend to
move between agencies quite a bit) that make or break a job application.

I've done well enough getting jobs through recruitment agents when I've
needed them. Have found other jobs through word-of-mouth, and more
importantly, applying directly to some places.

I've never understood why so many companies don't have their own
vacancy listings page on their website. Like Weta who only employ people
that apply to them directly, I still think that has a lot of worth in
this era.
