Now *that* is interesting. I'm trying to install U10.10 (alternative
disk) on VMWare on XP and under some circumstances (mainly fiddling with
the 'vga' kernel parameter), I get exactly that. A U7.x 'live' disk
booted OK.
Someone suggested that I try:
i915.modeset=0 xforcevesa
I haven't yet had a chance, but the second parameter in particular looks
interesting.
If you discover a solution I'd be really interested.
