No, in my experience each machine needs the DNS servers. They are a
static address for months and years at a time and I think you will
find this is the problem. (or at least part of it).
If you type ipconfig into the XP box it just may tell you what the DNS
servers are. Or there will be some other command to do it. But they
will be on the Telecom site and I think they are essential.
Meanwhile try to ping 202.27.219.13 This will not require DNS (dynamic
name servers) and is an external site in the Waikato that will respond
to a ping. It wil tell you if you are able to reach outside without
using DNS.
