While I personally don't think that having a set of guidelines for the
mailing list is by definition a bad thing, I think that what has been
proposed is far too long-winded. Why use a long word when a diminuitive
one will do just as well? ;)
Seriously though, why not just keep it short? You can pretty much
summarise Damon's suggestion down to:
* No advertising, at all, ever.
* Respect that other people may have different opinions to your own.
* Treat other people the same way you'd like them to treat you.
Is any more than that really required?

Would anyone who shares my view (assuming that there are others) care to
voice their opinions? Remember that if you choose not to speak up when
you can, then you have no choice but to suffer the consequences of what
happens.
